Building Blocks of Acadia's Ecosystems
<p>Enjoy a walk up to 1.5 miles along the Ship Harbor trail and experience the transition of the ecosystems that populate the surrounding area. Along the way visitors will learn more about the complex geologic history of the region and how that geology is acting as the building blocks in the landscapes that are present today.</p>

Drop-in Stewardship Volunteering with Friends of Acadia
<p><span data-olk-copy-source="MessageBody">As a Friends of Acadia drop-in volunteer, you’ll see a new side of Acadia, feel a deeper connection to the park, and leave this national treasure a little better than you found it.</span></p>
<p><span data-olk-copy-source="MessageBody">Our Drop-in Stewardship Volunteer Program occurs every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday from June through the end of October. While being led by our amazing Volunteer Crew Leaders, you’ll help with important work like cutting back vegetation, clearing drainage features, building bogwalk, tread work, weeding carriage roads, and other tasks.</span></p>
<p><span data-olk-copy-source="MessageBody">Projects run from 8:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., weather permitting, and no experience or reservation is required!</span></p>
Lokalizacja: Park and meet at the Hulls Cove Storage Facility, located near the Hulls Cove Visitor Center, Visitor Center Rd, Bar Harbor, ME 04609. (This is the same location as in 2024. Park HQ is under construction.)
Enter via the Hulls Cove Visitor Center entrance off Route 3 in Bar Harbor. Continue past the Visitor Center parking lot on Paradise Hill Road. When the road splits, bear left to the Hulls Cove Storage Facility. (Note: There is an “authorized vehicles only” as well as a “do not enter” sign, but if you are there to volunteer just continue past those! Don’t worry, we’ll have signs out to help guide you!)

Evening Program: Acadia's Night Sky
<p>Join rangers on this unique program at Sand Beach to view and learn about Acadia’s amazing night sky! Dress warmly, bring something to lie on, and please minimize flashlight use to preserve night vision. The program will occur whether it’s cloudy or clear. Use of stairs required to access the beach viewing site.</p>

<p><strong>Need to Know:<br /></strong></p>
<ul>
<li><em>All traffic must turn left onto the one-way Park Loop Road when exiting the Sand Beach parking lot</em></li>
<li>Conditions on Sand Beach are variable. Visitors should prepare for wind, cold, and moisture. Please bring additional warm/waterproof layers and something to sit or lie back on comfortably. </li>
<li>Accessing Sand Beach requires descending a set of stairs, then navigating uneven terrain across the beach. Please wear appropriate footwear and bring a flashlight/headlamp. Visitors should anticipate unexpected tripping hazards/beach debris. </li>
<li>Program attendees will have sensitive eyes as their vision adjusts to the darkness. If you are arriving after dark, please help protect everyone's night vision by directing your flashlights towards the ground and minimizing use of light once you've safely found your place on the beach. </li>
<li>The program will occur whether it’s cloudy or clear, but will be cancelled in the event of severe weather/unsafe conditions.</li>
<li>This free program is a popular one; arrive early to secure a parking spot and your place on the beach. </li>

<p>Drop by anytime during program hours to learn about the phenomena of fall raptor migration, other lesser known migrants, and raptor identification. Wear warm clothes, and bring binoculars and a field guide if you have them. May be adjusted or cancelled due to heavy rain or other adverse weather conditions. <br />Follow the Cadillac North Ridge Trail from the east parking lot at the summit, 200 yards down to an overlook.</p>
<p><strong>Need to Know:</strong></p>
<p>A Cadillac Summit Road vehicle reservation is required to drive to this location. Visit recreation.gov to reserve one ticket per vehicle. You may purchase a ticket for any time slot during program hours.</p>
<p>Terrain on the trail to access the program site is very uneven with rocks and roots in the path. Please be prepared for these conditions if attending.</p>

Hike With a Ranger! Acadia's Trails from the Granite Up
<p>Experience Acadia National Park's trails in a new light on this technical hiking program. Learn how the granite we scramble up, down, and around evolved from magma to the engineered paths of skilled craftsmen we now explore.</p>
<p><strong>Important Visitor Information:</strong> Ages 10 and up. Child carriers prohibited. No dogs. Program limited to 19 participants.</p>
<p><strong>Trail Conditions:</strong> While only 1.5 miles in distance, this is an advanced hiking program involving rocky scrambles, iron rung ladders, steep dropoffs, and more. Attendees should be prepared to scale rocky ascents using their hands and feet. Alternate route will be used in inclimate weather.</p>
<p><strong>Duration:</strong> 2 Hours.</p>
<p><strong>Location:</strong> Gorham Mountain Trailhead Parking Lot, on the right side of Park Loop Road south of Thunder Hole.</p>

Cultural Connections in the Park: Aron Griffith, Maliseet
<div class="x_elementToProof" data-olk-copy-source="MessageBody">The Cultural Connections in the Park series occurs on select Wednesdays from June through September.</div>

<div class="x_elementToProof">Learn about the artistry and traditions of birchbark with Aron Griffith. Aron, a Maliseet artist who resides in Maine and the Southwest, took on basket making in his early 30s and found a career that fulfilled his goal to raise awareness of the Maliseet traditions and culture. As an artist, he works with Maliseet traditional designs and concepts on birchbark which he gathers in the North Woods and Canada.</div>
<div class="x_elementToProof">Aron is self-taught and has developed his own unique style, including his creations of birchbark dolls, burden baskets & rattles. Each piece of bark is selected carefully and with respect to the birch tree. Etchings are done using a needle or awl, and usually decorated with sweetgrass, spruce root and brown ash. Aron’s baskets are functional pieces as well as decorative and his designs represent various animal and plant life.</div>
