Battlefield Tour

<p>Step back in time with a guided tour of Big Hole National Battlefield, led by our dedicated rangers, across the very ground where people camped and fought during the tragic events of August 1877. Along the way, rangers share stories of bravery, resilience, and cultural significance, painting a vivid picture of the lives affected and the legacy that endures.</p> <p>This tour will be along the Siege Trail, which is 1.2 miles long and has about 75 feet of elevation.</p> <p><em>Programming subject to change.  Check at the visitor center for the latest schedule.</em></p>

Commemoration 2026

<p>This year’s commemoration of the battle is Saturday, August 8 at 10am. This event, hosted by the Nez Perce Tribe, is open to all. Commemoration takes place on the valley floor, which does not have sun protection or seating. Plan to bring your own sunscreen, bug spray, camp chair, and water.</p> <p>We suggest arriving early to allow time to walk out to the camp site.</p>

Mikailah Thompson on Beadwork - Summer Speaker Series

<p>Mikailah is an Afro-Indigenous beadwork artist from the <em>nımí·pu·</em> (Nez Perce) Nation.  She will demonstrate beading techniques and discuss when beadwork began, who the <em>nımí·pu·</em>  traded with, and more.  She will also discuss and show some of the distinct styles of the <em>nımí·pu·.</em></p>

Dan Shook on the Grant-Kohrs Ranch Connection - Summer Speaker Series

<p><span data-olk-copy-source="MessageBody">Dan Shook, a 5th generation Montanan and longtime ranger at Grant-Kohrs Ranch National Historic Site, will share about the impacts of the Flight of 1877 on places like Deer Lodge, Anaconda, and Butte, and the role Grant-Kohrs Ranch played in the Battle of Big Hole.  He will also speak to some of the ranching traditions shared by the Big Hole Valley and Grant-Kohrs Ranch.</span></p>
