<p>See traditional basket weaving in action! White oak splits turn from simple reeds into sturdy baskets that will last for years. Learn how these baskets once filled the same everyday roles as today’s paper, plastic, and cloth bags.</p>
<p>The historic cabin will also be open for exploration! Step inside and learn about life on the farm in the 1890s.</p>

From Animals to Plants and Music to Mountains, each clue will challenge your memory, spark your curiosity, and maybe even teach you something new about the park we are exploring.</p>
<p>All NPS Blue Ridge Parkway programs are free and open to anyone. All ages welcome.</p>

Watch as Park staff shape iron into tools and art while sharing the stories of the people who relied on this essential craft. Discover how blacksmiths supported daily life in mountain communities and see history come alive at the forge.</p>
<p>The Mabry Mill Blacksmith will be operating from 10:30am to 2:00pm.</p>

Freedom 250: Overmountain Victory Commemoration Open Encampment (Museum of North Carolina Minerals- Milepost 331)
<p>This year marks the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Freedom 250 commemorations like ours focus on the founding of the United States and the stories which make up our shared history. In September of 1780, militia from North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia came marching from “over the mountains” to defeat British Major Patrick Ferguson’s forces at the Battle of Kings Mountain. This victory turned the tide of the American Revolution in the Patriots favor. Re-enactors will demonstrate traditional crafts and skills such as cartridge rolling, spinning, candle making, and take time to learn about what made this campaign unique.</p>
<p>Musket firing demonstrations will take place at 11am and 1pm.</p>

<p>Take a stroll back in time at the historic Mabry Mill, a beloved Blue Ridge icon.<br /> Built by Ed Mabry with help from the local community in the early 1900s, this humble mill once bustled with the sounds of a working mountain hub. A sawmill, gristmill, and woodworking shop powered daily life here, serving neighbors scattered across the rugged landscape.</p>
<p>Today, the tradition of craftsmanship and community continues. Park employees will have the mill doors open for you, ready to welcome visitors inside to explore the machinery, hear the stories, and experience the lives shaped by this remarkable place.</p>

Or the Civilian Conservation Corps, ravens, and ring-necked snakes? Our seasonal programs range from forest ecology to historical handicrafts, and everything in between. Come learn something new or revisit something familiar; it’s all a key aspect of the Blue Ridge!</p>

<div class="x_x_elementToProof" data-olk-copy-source="MessageBody"><u>Join the survey for .75 miles to the end of the second meadow then walk back on your own.</u> </div>

<p><span data-olk-copy-source="MessageBody">The program will be along the way to the Humpback Rocks trailhead for those who wish to hike after. And for those who prefer a leisurely day, the program is steps away from the Humpback Rocks Visitor Center and the historic buildings of those who lived atop the mountains.</span></p>

The Ramblin’ Bald: Guided High Elevation Hike (Craggy Gardens Visitor Center - Milepost 364)
<p>Come join a ranger for a guided hike in our changeable mountains! The land is always in flux, whether it’s seasonal flowers, deep geological time, or varied land use throughout human history. While hike topics may change from day to day, there is one constant throughout; the beauty unique to the high elevations on Blue Ridge Parkway!</p>
<p>The hike will be approximately 1 mile out and back, and the trail is easy-to-moderate, on rocky terrain. Expect the trail to be slick, especially if there has been dense fog or rain recently.</p>
<p>You must wear closed-toed shoes appropriate for a trail walk. Please bring water and rain gear in case of a turn in the weather. If there is light rain, the hike will continue if everyone is sufficiently prepared. In the event of thunder or other dangerous conditions, the hike will be canceled.</p>
