Music at Millbrook: Interactive Program and Open Acoustic Jam

Sounds of Appalachia: Traditional Music History, Performance, and Hands-on Program
<div class="xdj266r x14z9mp xat24cr x1lziwak x1vvkbs">From the winding ridges in North Carolina to the peaks of southern New York, the Appalachian Mountains have inspired art for hundreds of years.</div>
<div class="x14z9mp xat24cr x1lziwak x1vvkbs xtlvy1s"> </div>
<div class="x14z9mp xat24cr x1lziwak x1vvkbs xtlvy1s">Appalachian folk music is a musical style inspired by the Scots-Irish, English, and other European immigrants, and included ballads, fiddle tunes, reels and Sacred Harp singing. Some of the rhythms and instruments also came from African American traditions creating a totally new American Folk style that builds from the notes of fiddles, banjos, and dulcimers.</div>

<div class="x14z9mp xat24cr x1lziwak x1vvkbs xtlvy1s">The Appalachian dulcimer is a true American folk instrument developed by the people of the Appalachian Mountains.</div>

<div class="x14z9mp xat24cr x1lziwak x1vvkbs xtlvy1s">Learn more about the music that these mountains made by attending this volunteer-led program. Attendees will enjoy a history of Appalachian music, a performance of traditional Appalachian songs, and an opportunity to strum a few simple tunes on the Appalachian Dulcimer.</div>
