Lighthouse: 250 / 200 Celebration Evening Series: The Thompson Family and our Lighthouse

<p>Join us as Allison Thompson recounts her family's influence in the building of the 1826 Fire Island Lighthouse. Her great, great, grandfather, Jonathan Thompson, purchased the land and insisted that there be a Lighthouse here on Fire Island. Limited occupancy, donations accepted.</p>

Lighthouse: Evening Tower Tour

<p>Watch the sunset from a new perspective, at the top of the Fire Island Lighthouse. Bring a flashlight for your walk back to the parking field. $15 for FILPS members/$25 for non-members. Reservations Required. Sunset 8:08 pm.</p>

William Floyd Estate: A Nation in Focus: Exploring History Through Photographic Archives

<p>In celebration of America’s 250th anniversary, A Nation in Focus invites visitors to explore a behind the scenes look of how the William Floyd Estate’s photographic collection is utilized as a tool to further shape how historical knowledge is produced, organized, and stabilized.</p> <p>Through an intimate guided archival experience, participants will examine Floyd collection photographs and discover how different photographic processes and contextualized elements reveal the rich histories behind the people, places, and moments they document.</p> <p>Reservations are required. Please register by sending an email to fiis_information@nps.gov. William Floyd Estate: Marked for Rebellion: Signing the Declaration on August 2nd

Participants will get to sign their names with quill pen on parchment paper.</p> <p> </p> <p>An outdoor tent will be set up near the Old Mastic House. William Floyd Estate: Taxed Treasures: Objects That Shaped a Revolution

<p> </p> <p>This 30-minute interactive talk invites visitors to view historical items in the collection that were impacted by taxes imposed upon by British Parliament through the Sugar Act of 1764 and the Stamp Act of 1765. This program provides visitors with a unique opportunity to learn about significant imports and the impact they had on the daily lives of Americans and generations of Floyd family members. Visitors will be granted entry into the reception room to view the objects and learn about the significance of each item in relation to the Declaration of Independence and the respective family member(s) each object was used by. </p> <p> </p> <p>Reservations are required. Please register by sending an email to fiis_information@nps.gov. We will explore ideas to link communities with formal pathways from Fire Island Lighthouse to Kismet and Cherry Grove to Fire Island Pines.</div> <div dir="auto"> </div> </div> <div class="x14z9mp xat24cr x1lziwak x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a"> <div dir="auto">Increased pedestrian use within these areas has led to new challenges ensuring visitor safety, accessibility, and resource protection.</div> <div dir="auto"> </div> </div> <div class="x14z9mp xat24cr x1lziwak x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a"> <div dir="auto">Through these workshops, participants may engage in the planning process.
