Naturalization Ceremony
<p>Fort Scott National Historic Site will host the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and the U.S. District Court, Kansas District, for a Special Naturalization Ceremony. Check-in for new citizens begins at 9:30 a.m. and the ceremony will begin at 10:30 a.m.</p>
<p>The ceremony features musical performances from the Fort Scott High School Orchestra, with welcoming remarks by Fort Scott National Historic Site Superintendent Jill Jaworski and Fort Scott Mayor Kathryn Salsbury.</p>
<p>There will be seating for the applicants, but additional seating will be limited. Friends, family, guests, and the public are highly encouraged to bring lawn chairs or picnic blankets for seating. In case of rain or inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved to Fort Scott’s Memorial Hall.</p>
<p>Fort Scott is the story of the growth of our nation, and its fight for freedom. On the same parade ground that the very first African Americans were brought into the Northern Armies to openly fight for their freedom and a better life, these new citizens are starting down their own path of freedom and a better life.</p>
<p>September 17 to 23, the nation observes Constitution Week. The commemoration honors both the signing of the U.S. Constitution on September 17, 1787, (Constitution Day), an observance that began in 1940 as “I Am an American Day,” and Citizenship Day that began in 1952 based on a law signed by President Harry Truman. </p>
<p><br />Each year, USCIS celebrates the connection between the Constitution and citizenship by reflecting on what it means to be a citizen of the United States and holding special naturalization ceremonies across the country.</p>

<p>The new citizens’ naturalization certificates contain personally identifiable information. We request that media outlets not publish/share photos of new citizens holding their certificates unless that information is blurred.</p>

National Public Lands Day- Prairie Restoration
<p>Help us take care of “Our Home Outdoors” on National Public Lands Day Saturday, September 26th! The first 50 volunteers will get a free one-day entry pass to federal public lands, valid for up to one year after the event.</p>
<p>National Public Lands Day is the nation’s largest single-day volunteer event for public lands. This year’s theme is “Our Home Outdoors,” highlighting how public lands are woven into our daily lives, and how the responsibility of caring for them brings us together.</p>
<ul>
<li>On Saturday, September 26th, we’ll meet promptly at 9 a.m. at the visitor center, and finish at 1 p.m., maybe longer. Join us for as long as you can.</li>
<li>Volunteers are needed to help remove invasive and exotic woody plants from the tallgrass prairie. This includes sumac and walnut saplings, and blackberry bushes.</li>
<li>Tools, gloves, and other equipment will be provided by the park; participants should wear closed-toe shoes and layered clothing. Please bring sunscreen and insect spray.</li>
<li>Kids under 12 must stay with their parents and pets are not allowed.</li>
<li>Entry is free to all National Parks on Public Lands Day, September 26th, 2026.</li>

Murder and Mayhem at the Fort
<p>Saturday, October 31, 2026, join Fort Scott National Historic Site for a special candle lantern walk through the Murder and Mayhem at the Fort. Tour leaders, from the 1840s-1860s, will share some of the lesser told tragedies and macabre events that were far too common in Fort Scott’s 19th century. These four special Halloween lantern tours will start every 30 minutes beginning at 6:30 pm. Tours are free and open to the public however space is limited and required reservations will open Friday, October 16th, at 8:30 am by calling 620-223-0310.</p>
<p> Those with reservations, please arrive 10 minutes early to allow time to park and get oriented. Participants are advised to please dress for the weather and conditions, as the entire tour will be outside and on sidewalks.</p>

<p>45. Doroczna Wycieczka Przy Świecach odbędzie się w piątek i sobotę, 4 i 5 grudnia 2026 roku. Wycieczki 4 grudnia rozpoczną się o 18:30 i będą wyruszać co 15 minut do 21:00. W sobotę, 5 grudnia, wycieczki rozpoczną się o 17:00, a ostatnia wycieczka wyruszy o 20:45. Prosimy przybyć 10 minut wcześniej, aby mieć czas na parkowanie, odprawę i zaznajomienie się z terenem. Uczestnikom zaleca się ubieranie odpowiedniego do pogody i warunków, ponieważ cała wycieczka odbędzie się na zewnątrz i po chodnikach.</p>
<p>1 000 lampionów świecowych rozświetli teren, a odtwórcy (w tym Ty) ożywią fort. Tegoroczna wycieczka nosi tytuł „Pociecha i Radość w Forcie Scott”.</p>

Independence Day Celebration
<p>Celebrate American independence with the sounds of cannon fire and immersion in America’s history while honoring the men and women who have defended the United States through the growth of our nation.</p>
<p> On July 4<sup>th</sup>, we will fire artillery, lead Fort tours, and honor all those who have fought for our freedom.</p>
