Invasive Species Removal Volunteer Event

<p>Do you enjoy working outside at historic sites? Come join us on November 13th to help restore and improve our parks' health!</p> <p>We will focus our efforts around the Frederick Douglass House removing <strong><em>English Ivy</em></strong><em> (</em><a href="https://extension.umd.edu/resource/english-ivy/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>Hedera helix</em></a><em>)</em> and other invasive vines from trees in the area. No prior experience or skills are necessary to attend!</p> <p><strong>Parking/transport: </strong>Parking is available <a href="https://maps.app.goo.gl/r6u4sYDSheKuzWt67" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">here</a>, and it is accessible by bus or walking distance from Anacostia Metro Station.</p> <p><strong>Where to meet: </strong>Meet at the circular drive at the top of the hill behind the house <a href="https://maps.app.goo.gl/7gp6psgqwfFzWkHb7" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">here</a>.</p> <p><strong>Schedule: Check-in </strong>begins at <strong>9:30am</strong> followed by a safety talk and instructions at <strong>9:45am. Project work </strong>will begin at <strong>10am </strong>and conclude at <strong>12pm. Groups are welcome!</strong></p> <p><strong>What to Bring: </strong>Please wear long pants, long sleeves, and closed-toe shoes (sneakers or boots are recommended). <em>Please bring your own water!</em></p> <p><strong>Notes</strong></p> <p>-There will be access to the restrooms located at the visitor center.</p> <p>-Tools and gloves will be provided on site.</p> <p>-Any attendees under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.</p> <p>-You will receive a confirmation email before the event with more details.</p>
