Top Cottage Tour
<p>Tours of Top Cottage have officially begun! Experience the serene hideaway that Franklin D. Roosevelt constructed at the pinnacle of Dutchess Hill. On the same porch where FDR entertained King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, you can contemplate the private thoughts of the 32nd President with the guidance of a park ranger.</p>
Lokalizacja: Access to Top Cottage is only possible by a tour shuttle ride that begins at the visitor center. An NPS ranger will be your driver. The trip is approximately 15 minutes up to the cottage and 15 minutes back down to the visitor center. If you have accessibility concerns, we have options to accommodate your tour.

<div class="x14z9mp xat24cr x1lziwak x1vvkbs xtlvy1s">Join Parks & Pages as we discuss Mark Frost’s new historical novel, The Yankee Sphinx. Inspired by the diaries of Roosevelt aide and speechwriter William D. Hassett, the novel follows FDR through the final years of the Great Depression and World War II, offering a close look at his leadership, relationships, declining health, and famously private personality. We’ll talk about Frost’s portrayal of Roosevelt and what historical fiction can add to our understanding of a well-known historical figure.</div>

Lokalizacja: The meeting takes place in the Dyson Room of the Henry A. Wallace Visitor Center on the grounds of the Home of FDR National Historic Site.

Voices of Val-Kill: A Centennial Celebration

<div class="x14z9mp xat24cr x1lziwak x1vvkbs xtlvy1s">The National Park Service and the Eleanor Roosevelt Center at Val-Kill present Voices of Val-Kill, a special panel discussion celebrating the 100th anniversary of Val-Kill in Hyde Park, New York. The program will tell the remarkable story of the people who came together to save Val-Kill from development—and whose tireless determination ultimately helped create the first and only National Historic Site dedicated to a First Lady, a leader at the United Nations and a world diplomat.<br /><br /></div>
<div class="x14z9mp xat24cr x1lziwak x1vvkbs xtlvy1s">Participants in the panel will include Anna Eleanor Fierst, Susan P. Curnan, and Peggy Zamierowski along with Hyde Park NPS Rangers Danielle Massaro, Franceska Mascali-Urbin, and Will Simone.</div>
<div class="x14z9mp xat24cr x1lziwak x1vvkbs xtlvy1s"><br />Before the panel, a historical video retrospective will be shown which helps tell the story of Val-Kill’s preservation and introduces some of the people and events involved.<br /><br /></div>
<div class="x14z9mp xat24cr x1lziwak x1vvkbs xtlvy1s">Through firsthand perspectives and reflections, the panel will explore why saving Val-Kill mattered, the obstacles and victories encountered along the way, and the enduring historical importance of preserving the place Eleanor Roosevelt called home. The conversation will also look beyond the preservation campaign to consider Val-Kill’s continuing role in the community and the organizations, programs, and opportunities that have grown from the decision to save this extraordinary place.</div>
