Honouliuli Pop-Up Exhibit: Moloka‘i Public and Lāna‘i Public and School Libraries

<p>The Honouliuli National Historic Site pop-up exhibit that traveled around O‘ahu last year is headed for new shores on our neighboring islands. Beginning in June, the pop-up exhibit will find new homes in public libraries across the Hawaiian Islands, on the same island that will also screen the movie <a id="https://www.nps.gov/hono/getinvolved/movie-screenings.htm|" href="https://www.nps.gov/hono/getinvolved/movie-screenings.htm">Voices Behind Barbed Wire</a> that month.<br /><br />Honouliuli National Historic Site's pop-up exhibit is a series of panels that give foundational information about Honouliuli Internment Camp and its impacts as well as National Park Service stewardship of the site. For those who have never heard of the park, it is a great source of knowledge to learn an overview of the history.</p> <p>For the month of August, the pop-up exhibit is being housed in the Moloka‘i Public Library on Moloka‘i and Lāna‘i Public and School Library on Lāna‘i.</p>

"Voices Behind Barbed Wire" Film Screening (Lāna‘i)

<p>For the 80 Years of Closure Commemoration of when Honouliuli Internment Camp closed, the National Park Service in partnership with the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawai‘i, Kinetic Productions, and Pacific Historic Parks, will be bringing special film screenings of "Voices Behind Barbed Wire" on all neighboring islands.</p> <p>"Voices Behind Barbed Wire", a film by Kinetic Productions, tells the story of Japanese-Americans living in Hawaiʻi after the bombing of Pearl Harbor and how their families were affected by martial law. Following the film will be a panel discussion with Ryan Kawamoto, director of the film, and Christine Ogura, Superintendent of Honouliuli National Historic Site.</p> <p>In August, in partnership with Lana‘i Public and School Library, the film will be shown at the Lāna‘i Public and School Library on Lāna‘i. There will also be a Honouliuli NHS pop-up exhibit display at the library all month in coordination with the film.</p>

"Voices Behind Barbed Wire" Film Screening (Oahu) feat. Members of the Hawai'i Symphony Orchestra

<p>In partnership with the <a id="https://www.myhso.org/|" href="https://www.myhso.org/" data-bs-toggle="modal" data-bs-target="#myModal" data-toggle="modal" data-target="#myModal" data-remote="/common/commonspot/customcf/modals/modal_intercept.cfm?targetURL=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.myhso.org%2F">Hawai'i Symphony Orchestra (HSO)</a>, Kinetic Productions, and the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawai'i, a live musical performance by HSO concertmaster Iggy Jang and cellist Joshua Nakazawa will welcome audiences as part of a screening for "Voices Behind Barbed Wire". A violin that was used at Honouliuli Internment Camp is the inspiration for this special HSO performance. This special film screening will be followed by a panel session, including Ryan Kawamoto, the director of the film, Karen Murashige whose father was incarcerated at Honouliuli and whose violin is featured, and a member of the Hawaii Symphony Orchestra.</p> <p>Doors open no earlier than 5:45.</p>

Lokalizacja: The event will be held on the grounds of Pearl Harbor National Memorial. No bags are allowed unless they are clear. Parking in the lot is $7. Bus stops are within walking distance of the entrance. The Skyline train station Aloha Stadium is about a half-mile walk away from the entrance.

80th Finale Performance at Hawai‘i Theatre
