A Mississippi native, born in Flowood and raised in Ridgeland, Brown relocated to New Orleans in 2021 to pursue music and become immersed in one of the world’s most influential musical communities.</p> <p>Brown graduated Cum Laude from Xavier University of Louisiana in 2025 with a Bachelor of Music Performance and a minor in Mass Communications. His performance credits include the New Orleans Jazz &amp; Heritage Festival, International Arts Festival New Orleans, Tremé Fall Festival Second Line Parade, French Quarter Festival, and French Market Creole Tomato Festival.</p> <p>An active member of the Congo Square Preservation Society, Brown has also served as an intern with the New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park. He performs throughout Greater New Orleans with ensembles, churches, and professional artists. His performance collaborations include Herlin Riley, Jason Marsalis, Delfeayo Marsalis, Luther Gray, Jamilah Peters-Muhammad, Craig Klein, Kid Chocolate, Sunpie, Leroy Etienne, Katie Rodgers, Michael Harris, Brent Rose, and Zahria Sims, among many others.</p> <p style="text-align: center;"><strong>This program is free and open to the public.</strong></p>

She became one of gospel music’s all-time greats, known for her rich, powerful voice that cultivated a global following. Jackson grew up in a Pitt Street shack and started singing at 4 years old in the Mount Moriah Baptist Church. While she made some recordings in the 1930s, Jackson tasted major success with "Move On Up a Little Higher" in 1947, which sold millions of copies and became the highest selling gospel single in history. She released hits like "How I Got Over," which won a Grammy Award. Growing up in a musical New Orleans family, she absorbed jazz from her father's (New Orleans bassist/tuba player Kerry Lewis Sr.) gigs and explored classical piano and clarinet under the tutelage of her uncle, Damien Gibson, a classical multi instrumentalist. She was encouraged by a high school teacher to treat her voice as her main instrument, and went on to earn master’s degrees in classical voice and performing arts administration, studying at Xavier University of Louisiana and NYU. Her performance work blends swing, jazz, and theatrical storytelling, and she has appeared with Dandy Wellington, the Satin Dollz, and her brother Kerry Lewis Jr., among others. Beyond performing, Kay co-produced her show, Belle Noire: An Ode to Black Songstresses of Eras Past, which debuted in New Orleans, created/hosted the King Cake Soirée, and co-hosts Turtle Bay's Back Porch Series with Ricky Alexander.</p> <p><strong>Loïc Da Silva</strong> (AKA Cordeone) is an NYC based Portuguese/French multi-instrumentalist, composer, and singer. He began playing Portuguese Balls at age 9 and went on to teach himself a wide range of instruments, from the accordion to bandoneon, Portuguese guitar, piano, classical guitar, Brazilian percussion, drums, and bass. He turned professional at 18 and has since collaborated with artists such as Cyrille Aimée, Ute Lemper, Pedro Giraudo, Marcel Loeffler, and Michael Pipoquinha. His own compositions blend jazz with Afro-Luso music, hip hop, tango, and reggae in an effort to capture his personal and artistic identity.</p> <p style="text-align: center;"><strong>This program is free and open to the public.</strong></p>

He’s toured with a wide range of artists ranging from Bruce Hornsby to the Wild Magnolias, and currently can be found with a number of top bands, including chanteuse Debbie Davis, with Johnny Sketch and the Dirty Notes, and bouzouki maven Beth Patterson in the ZouKeys. He is an expert on James Booker, and a staple at WWOZ Piano Night.</p> <p style="text-align: center;"><strong>This program is free and open to the public.</strong></p>

Led by the great New Orleans drummer, Adonis Rose, visitors should expect an interview with the musicians followed by a performance.</p> <p><strong>Adonis Rose</strong> is a Grammy-winning jazz drummer and the Artistic Director of the prestigious New Orleans Jazz Orchestra (NOJO). The New Orleans native came from a musical family – bassist Chris Severin is his uncle – and he took to the drums at an early age, influenced by his father and the legendary James Black. Rose attended the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts and toured with lifelong friend Nicholas Payton, with whom he has recorded half a dozen albums. He has since performed with a Who’s Who of jazz, including Betty Carter, Harry Connick, Jr., Terrence Blanchard, Marcus Roberts, Nnenna Freelon, Kurt Elling, and Wynton Marsalis. He’s played at every major jazz festival and venue across the globe, from the North Sea to New Orleans, from Carnegie Hall to Newport.  Rose has over 50 recordings to his credit, including the 2022 ballads collection, For All We Know, with his trio, (with pianist Ryan Hanselar and bassist Lex Warshawsky), and vocalist Gabrielle Cassava.</p> <p>Rose is also an educator, festival producer, composer, and bandleader. He has held several Artist in Residence positions and his work with the NOJO has been hailed for the programs and partnerships he has developed, including a close relationship with Dee Dee Bridgewater. </p> <p> </p> <p style="text-align: center;"><strong>This program is free and open to the public.</strong></p>

<h2 style="text-align: center;"><strong>The Maroons</strong></h2> <h2 style="text-align: center;">Saturday at 3:00 pm</h2> <h4 style="text-align: center;">At the National Park Service French Quarter Visitor Center</h4> <h3 style="text-align: center;">419 Decatur St, New Orleans, LA </h3> <p>The <strong>Maroons Band</strong> brings New Orleans, Afro Caribbean, Folk and World music on one stage.The Maroons Band are: the multi genre artist <strong>Marcus Akinlana</strong> on drums and vocals, the exquisite <strong>Sula Spirit</strong> on vocals and shekere, and the talented multi-instrumentalist and drummer <strong>Xavier Molina</strong>. The Maroons are multi-disciplined and multigenerational, breaking boundaries and bridging gaps with their new Juju Music sound.The band got its start while serving the community through shared sacred ritual work, music and artwork with the Healing Bembe for the World in 2020 birthed by Akinlana and Sula Spirit. Later they joined with Xavier Molina during the challenging times of the pandemic, to create a sound that reflects their cultural mission by uplifting one and all. In their passionate performances the Maroon Band and Show mixes their original music with classic jams to rock the soul and the house simultaneously. <h2 style="text-align: center;">Arrowhead Jazz Band</h2> <h2 style="text-align: center;"> <strong>with Doyle Cooper</strong></h2> <h3 style="text-align: center;"><strong>Tuesday at 3:00 pm</strong> </h3> <p style="text-align: center;">At the National Park Service French Quarter Visitor Center </p> <h3 style="text-align: center;"><strong>419 Decatur St, New Orleans</strong> </h3> <p>The <strong>Arrowhead Jazz Band </strong>brings together <strong>National Park Service Rangers</strong> and local musicians to perform traditional New Orleans jazz, blues, gospel, and original compositions.</p> <p>The Arrowhead Jazz Band is anchored by New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park <strong>Rangers</strong> <strong>Jade Perdue</strong> (vocals/keyboards), <strong>Kerry Lewis, Sr.</strong> (bass), <strong>Matt Hampsey</strong> (guitar), and Intern <strong>Saskia Walker</strong> (vocals).</p> <p><strong>Doyle “Red” Cooper</strong> took up the trumpet at age 10; by the time he turned 30 he’d played the Jazzfest nearly 50 times. Today he is a fixture on the trad jazz scene, playing trumpet or tuba, in his own Doyle Cooper Jazz Band or with the Storyville Stompers, the Red Hot Brass Band, and SOUL Brass Band.</p> <p>They will be joined by local musician<strong>s Tim Brown, II</strong> (vibraphone) and <strong>Simon Lott</strong> (drums).</p> <p style="text-align: center;"><strong>This program is free and open to the public.</strong></p>
