Pyrite Mine Hike
<p>Meet a ranger at 9:30am at Parking Lot D on Scenic Drive in the park for a 2 hour hike. Explore the unique mining history of the park as you tour the remains of the Cabin Branch Pyrite Mine on this 2 mile guided hike. See the foundations of old mine buildings and cross a historic bridge over Quantico Creek! It is recommended to bring water and bug spray and wear comfortable hiking shoes on this mostly shaded forest hike.</p>

Junior Ranger Arts and Crafts
<p>Meet a ranger at 2:00pm at the Visitor Center to work on completing the Junior Ranger activity book and earn a badge. Take leaf etchings, make your own stamp, and draw pictures of your favorite park landscape! All craft supplies will be provided and Junior Ranger books and badges are available.</p>

Hiking Through America's History on the Crossing Trail
<p>Did you know that part of the Washington-Rochambeau Revolutionary Route National Historic Trail passes through Prince William Forest Park? Take a hike through history at Prince William Forest Park on the Crossing Trail, which follows part of the route where, in 1781, General Rochambeau's French Army and General Washington's Continental Army marched troops south from New York to fight the British Army in Yorktown, VA during the Revolutionary War. Celebrate the 250th anniversary of American Independence by following in the footsteps of these armies as you learn about travel in the 1700s along this half mile trail. Bring water and bug spray on this mostly shaded one hour hike.</p>

<p>Meet a ranger at 2:00pm near the park's Visitor Center for a 30-minute talk. Learn about the history of one of the first centeralized spy agencies in the USA, the Office of Strategic Service (OSS). Learn about the brief period in park history where the park was closed to the public during World War II to train spies in the cabin camps!</p>

Yoga in the Park
<p>Join us for Yoga in the Park at Prince William Forest Park, a peaceful outdoor class designed to help you unwind, stretch, and reconnect with nature. This Hatha yoga session focuses on gentle, mindful movement, breath awareness, and basic postures suitable for all levels—from beginners to experienced practitioners.<br />Surrounded by the natural beauty of the park, you’ll have the opportunity to slow down, build strength and flexibility, and enjoy a calming, supportive environment. Each class encourages balance between body and mind, leaving you feeling refreshed and grounded.</p>
<p> <br /><strong>Please note: Participants must bring their own yoga mat and any props they may need (such as blocks, straps, or blankets). Dress comfortably for the weather and bring water to stay hydrated.</strong></p>
<p><br />If you plan to attend, please email <a href="mailto:yogaintheparkva@outlook.com">yogaintheparkva@outlook.com</a> by August 8 at noon so we can plan accordingly. Registration for the event is capped at 12-15 people. Yoga will take place in a grassy, shaded open area near the park's visitor center and is weather dependent. Come breathe, move, and relax with us in the fresh air!</p>

<p>Uncover the family farming history of Prince William Forest Park on this 1 mile, mostly flat, shaded hike through the forest. Hike past homesites that have been reclaimed by the forest and learn about some of the families who called this area home. Intro to Orienteering
<p>Meet at 10:00am at Turkey Run Parking Area for a 1.5 hour talk and off-trail hike through the park’s orienteering course. Learn how to use a map and compass to find your way to different points throughout the forest. Bring a compass if you have one; maps and compasses are available for use during the program. Bring water, bug spray, and wear hiking shoes as the orienteering course is mostly off trail.</p>

Laurel Loop Hike
<p>Meet a ranger at 9:30am near the Visitor Center for a 1.5-hour hike. Explore the different plants of the forest and learn about the park's history as you travel the 1.4-miles of the Laurel Loop Trail. The trail loops down to a suspension bridge over Quantico Creek and passes through eastern Piedmont forest. It is recommended that you bring bug spray and water and wear comfortable hiking shoes for this shaded forest hike.</p>
