Participants should be prepared for a short hike. Good footwear for walking/hiking is recommended. Please bring water, snacks, and sun protection like a hat and sunscreen. Rocky Mountain Speaks: Art in the Park - The Pattern of Protection: Stewardship Through Stitching

<div class="x_elementToProof" data-ogsc="rgb(0, 0, 0)"> </div> <p>Help us welcome Rocky's next Artist-in-Residence, Rebecca Shewmaker. Rebecca creates detailed landscape images using sewing and embroidery techniques. Each piece appears to be a traditional landscape painting when viewed from a distance. It is only when viewed closely that the intricate texture of thousands of machine and hand sewn stitches is revealed.</p> <p>Rebecca holds an MFA from Texas Woman’s University and has completed several national park residencies, including Zion and Glacier. In Rocky Mountain National Park, she is recording the textures of the high-alpine environment to foster a deeper connection to these protected lands.</p> <p>Join us on Sunday, September 13, at Beaver Meadows Visitor Center at 1 p.m. for the program “The Pattern of Protection: Stewardship Through Stitching."</p> <p>Explore the "tapestry" of Rocky Mountain National Park through the unique lens of fiber art. Rebecca uses her intricate threadpaintings as a metaphor for the fragility of the wilderness, where every stitch—like every visitor action—leaves a lasting mark. Through a showcase of her work and the high-alpine landscape, Rebecca discusses Leave No Trace principles as "care instructions" for preserving the park’s ecosystems for future generations.</p> <p>This program is free. Enjoy a Week of Cultural Enrichment on the East Side of Rock Mountain National Park with Kelly and Suzie Looking Horse

<div> <p data-ogsb="white"><span data-ogsc="rgb(12, 100, 192)" data-olk-copy-source="MessageBody">One way that Rocky Mountain National Park helps to celebrate indigenous heritage and culture and continue to learn from others is by working with partners and inviting cultural demonstrators to join us in person.</span></p> </div> <div> <p data-ogsb="white"><span data-ogsc="rgb(12, 100, 192)">Come enjoy a week of cultural enrichment beginning on Monday, September 14 to Friday, September 18. Kelly and Suzie Looking Horse (Oglala Lakota) will be in Rocky Mountain National Park and will offer daily cultural demonstrations in front of Beaver Meadows Visitor Center from 9 am to noon each day.</span></p> </div> <div> <p data-ogsb="white"><span data-ogsc="rgb(12, 100, 192)">These demonstrations are free and open to the public. All ages are welcome.</span></p> </div> <div> <p data-ogsb="white"><span data-ogsc="rgb(12, 100, 192)">Join us as Kelly and Suzie connect traditional art with the natural world through traditional songs, dance, storytelling and Native arts.</span></p> </div> <div> <p data-ogsb="white"><span data-ogsc="rgb(12, 100, 192)">Interested in building your own dreamcatcher or parfleche necklace to take home? Following the morning demonstrations, there will also be an optional hands-on workshop available in the afternoon daily at Fall River Visitor Center. Registration is required. Participants must come to the morning cultural demonstration and sign up in person. Calling All Junior Anglers on the West Side of RMNP

<p>Junior Rangers and their families are invited to join a park ranger at the Holzwarth Historic Site, along the banks of the Colorado River, to learn how to fly fish and practice casting. You can drop in anytime. Earn your Junior Angler badge too!</p> <p>This program is open to all ages and all fishing equipment is provided. Anyone age 16 and older must have a Colorado Fishing License to go fishing.</p> <p>To get to the program site, park at the Holzwarth Historic Site parking area and walk approximately 1/4 mile down the trail toward the historic site. This program will be set up near the bridge over the river.</p>
